A few weeks ago, I introduced my new Walking On Wednesday Marriage series and then last week I posted my first real post about marriage. I had another half serious post set up last week, but decided to do this fun one instead. Then, when I went to publish it I got a “fatal error” and lost everything I had written. Booooo! So this week is the week that you finally get to know more about the man that chooses to do life with me. Back for my birthday, Steve took over the blog and did 10 things that You Should Know about Stacy so I thought it would be a fun introduction to do the same. So, without further ado, here are 10 things you should know about Steve:

1.)  Freestyle Battle – That’s right, before Steve turned Christian (we call him “PC Steve” for pre-Christian), he was a gansta rapper. Haha! Okay, not really. But he did frequent a freestyle battle a handful of times in college and I gotta say, he is actually really good. After he became Christian, he retired from the freestyle battle world, and turned his lyrical genius into developing a Christian Rap CD. Yep,  he performed in Delaware and Alabama and was even featured on 88.7 The Bridge! Here is an example of some of my fave lyrics from his song “March!”:

For that I owe my life to Him/And will always find delight in Him

It’s like my soul it takes a vitamin/Every time that I invite Him in

He’s like Superman and Spiderman/Combined with Hulk and Iron Man

Saves me from flames like firemen/ My spirit it desires Him

2.)  His Guilty Pleasure – When it comes to being healthy, Steve dominates this relationship. He can pass up almost everything bad for him even when he knows it will taste sooooo good. Imagine being married to a man that watches you eat a sloppy burger and french fries while he happily eats his salad with a side of oil and vinegar. Ugh! But, he does have an Achilles heal to his health conscience ways. Yep, all I have to do is buy a bag of Oreo’s, some peanut butter, and pour a tall glass of milk and you can kiss his clean eating goodbye for the day.

3.)  Super Witty – One of the many reasons why I fell in love with Steve is because of his quick wit. He almost always has a comeback or something super punny to say in every conversation. Not so coincidentally, he is also the only person that can make me laugh mid-fight. They say laughter is the best medicine and I would have to agree it has helped to resolve many disagreements.

4.)  Not a Shopper – I’m convinced that if there were no Stacy in his life, Steve would be wearing the same jeans and tight Pac Sun shirt from 8 years ago.  Steve rarely steps foot in a clothing store. In fact, even till this day he wears the same brown shoes he wore before we met. I wish I could say this is because of his thrifty and conservative values, but it is more that he prefers my taste to his. I have literally picked out every item of clothing for him since we have been together.

5.)  He’s Got Ups – I may have the basketball shot, but he has the “ups.” Steve competed at the college level for the high jump and can still dunk a basketball. His latest feat is completing a 50” Box Jump at CrossFit with ease.

6.)   Captain Intensity – If Steve had a super hero name, it would be Captain Intensity. At first this was a playful inside joke between the two of us, but the intensity level keeps getting higher as he gets older. And now I’m convinced it is actually at the super hero power level. He is a strict rule follower and does everything (exercise, diet, work) at about 200%. We once got in a fight because we showed up somewhere at 8:45 a.m. instead of 8:40 a.m and we didn’t even need to be there until 9:00.

7.)  He Loves Writing – His way with words isn’t just for rap songs and quick wit!  Steve loves writing and has written a children’s book, a short story that has been published in a magazine, journal writings to our kids, and started (and almost finished) our love story. I would say that prior to having kids this was his favorite past time and I have a box full of love letters and emails to prove it.

8.)  NorCal Boy for SoCal Teams – Steve was born and raised in Northern California, but he is a Southern California fan through and through. This is especially true when it comes to his USC Trojans and the L.A. Lakers. In fact, when Stanford plays USC it is a HUGE deal. That is the team that Steve should have liked since he grew up so close to the heart of the redwoods.

9.)  Yellow Means Stop – Steve almost never runs through a yellow light. If we are just short of the line and the light turns yellow, he brakes and does not step on the gas (see the rule follower part from above). It is SO out of the ordinary for him to gas it through a yellow light that when he did it the other day I started laughing so hard I was crying. I was so shocked that he went through a yellow light that I could not contain my amusement of his stepping out of his comfort zone.

10.) ANW Fan – We are huge fans of American Ninja Warrior. So, after watching this year’s city qualifying rounds, I convinced Steve that he needs to try out to be on the show next season. I know he has the athletic ability, but did you see #6 up above? My hubby has the intensity needed for these things. That along with his will and drive would make it far on ANW. We will be putting a video together this fall and sending it in for a video audition. We need you to help cheer him on through his Youtube Channel or Twitter feed so he has a better chance of making it on the show.  Just so you know how serious (and intense) he is, here’s is a quick clip of the Ninja Warrior training obstacle he built in our basement:

That’s my man. I hope this gives you a better idea of who he is and you enjoyed the post.

Reading this reminds me of how much I wish we lived closer so I could witness this stuff daily! It’s not always on the top of my head on a regular basis because life is hectic. But thank you so much for this reminder. I love and miss you both so much!
