A few weeks ago I was shooting a wedding and I had an unthinkable happen. I was shooting details at the groom’s house and my camera bag strap broke right off my shoulder. This probably doesn’t sound like a big deal because at least it wasn’t my camera (don’t worry brides, I carry a back-up), or a favorite lens (not my precious 50mm 1.2!!!), but this is the bag I carry around all day on my wedding days and there was absolutely NO way I was not going to use it for the next eight hours. It is a crucial piece of “equipment” and really works perfectly for easy and safe swapping of lenses to use during key moments of the day. It was a sad and stressful moment for sure, but to be fair, I have worn this camera bag into the ground. I shouldn’t have been surprised and I definitely wasn’t disappointed with the quality of my beloved Kelly Moore camera bag. It has served me well. I’ve used it for over three years now at every single shoot – weddings, family, engagement, you name it. That is probably over 200 + shoots all together. ANYwho, I managed to find a way to rig it up for the wedding, but ever since then I have been on the hunt for a new bag. I wrote “new bag” on my Photography equipment wish list as soon as I got home and as I did I realized that aside from a film camera this year, I haven’t purchased anything for my business! For anyone who thinks that this business has zero to little expenses, they are mistaken. There are soooo many things on my wish list for this year and next that can help me run a better business. Unfortunately because this business comes with other highly needed expenses (insurance, marketing, taxes) I have had to put these purchases on the back-burner so far this year. But, I am still determined to be able to purchase them before the close of the year and I wanted to share with you. Tell me, what is on your wish list?
KELLY MOORE – KELLY BOY BAG | $199
My strap broke and the leather on my old bag has been through the ringer. I need a little more space for weddings too since I plan to add a same day slideshow to part of the SHP wedding experience and need to purchase an iPad. This bag has plenty of room for all I need and it looks super professional. Even though it is technically a “guys” bag, I think it is perfect for my needs.
HOLDFAST THE MONEYMAKER | $215
I have had my eye on this leather camera strap for over a year. I need something that provides even support across my back and that can hook two cameras on. I love the freedom that this camera strap would provide at weddings and really want this before I start adding film into my SHP wedding experience next year.
SEKONIC LIGHT METER | $389.99
This is a crucial piece of equipment for shooting film. I am really waiting for this last element before bringing my film camera with me to every shoot. I think once I have the light meter and practice with it for a few weeks, you will be seeing more of my film work show up in my portfolio. Eeeeep! I am so excited for this.
iPAD Pro | $900
An iPad has been on my list for years! It just has never been a HUGE priority. Well, this year it really is. With doing In Person Sales at the house there are so many awesome programs I am missing out on by not having an iPad AND I haven’t been able to do a same day slideshow for any of my brides which is definitely something I want to add to the whole SHP Wedding experience.
