There are definitely some exciting things going on at our house this week. One big announcement we will be blogging later on in the week, but for right now we are super busy with getting “back to school” with Addisyn. This year was a little bittersweet for us because we had to pull Addisyn from her private pre-school because we couldn’t afford the cost with our new transition to full time photography. Throughout the summer we struggled with what we were going to do with her during the school year because I was really nervous that she would get bored while being at home during the winter months without anything to do. I am totally confident that Addisyn could have skipped a second year of organized preschool and would have been ready to attend Kindergarten next year, but we didn’t want to do that. Being in a neighborhood full of kids and attending church functions with even more kids, we aren’t nervous about the social aspect of it either, but we want her to be excited to learn and to be ready to learn at a Kindergarten level.
Enter homeschooling. Homeschooling can be a scary word for many and, to be honest, it is for me too! Mainly because, even if Addisyn adapted to it this year, I don’t think I can be consistent, organized, creative and patient enough to do it year after year. Which is a shame because I truly believe Addisyn would thrive in this type of learning environment. She is eager to learn in many subjects, but her primary interests remain in story-telling, creating, reading, and music. I want her interests to remain there because that is what makes her so unique, but I also know there are some subjects (like math) that she currently isn’t interested in at all. I love the idea that in homeschooling I can teach her those subjects as her interests begin to show and I can teach her in a way where she might remain interested.
The thought of homeschool has always been a distant thought. Distant mainly because I am a little fearful that I won’t be able to provide her the structure that she might need. But, this year we are going to give it a go in a little more laid back way just to see how it turns out. So here we go!!! A year full of fun learning ahead of us to get her ready for kindergarten next year! I hope to be able to update this blog with our schooling adventures from time to time and maybe even some school room pictures too. :-)
Warmly,
Stacy
