Natalie and Eric’s wedding was my last “Spring” wedding in a back-to-back seven wedding stretch I had started at the end of May. I was wondering at the beginning of the season how I would do with the 7 wedding stretch while being pregnant, but as I was walking out the door to go to Natalie and Eric’s wedding I remember telling my hubby, “Babe, I am 17 weeks pregnant and not tired at all. I love my job so much!” And it’s truly because of couples like Natalie and Eric.
Up until Natalie and Eric’s wedding all my 2015 brides and grooms managed to dodge the storm clouds for their big day, but on this day it was not quite that easy. Luckily they had planned an all indoor wedding, but that still doesn’t account for portraits. When I woke up in the morning I saw the forecast of 100% rain and thunderstorms and decided to leave two hours early to scout out places to shoot depending on how much rain we would have after their ceremony. I found two beautiful places that would work with drizzling rain and umbrellas so I was totally stoked and not worried at all. But my early scouting was almost worthless and I had to kick my creative gears into overdrive when I walked outside after the ceremony to see torrential downpour and sideways rain. The super high winds were making an outdoor portrait session nearly impossible. Thankfully we decided to visit The University of Delaware and thanks to my second shooter, we found a beautifully naturally lit tunnel to do all their portraits. It ended up being one of my favorite locations to shoot. A true testament to photographers to not give up on finding the perfect spot just because of a little hurricane weather. ;-) Just wait until you see the portraits though, the light is just dreamy and most importantly we were able to stay dry. Wahoo!
Even though the rain was a big part of their day, it was only a small detail. The part that I loved about Natalie and Eric’s day so much is their focus on their union under God. From the prayers and love letters before the ceremony, to the worship at the ceremony, and all the way to hearing the story of their steady and strong relationship throughout college during the toasts, this wedding in one for the history books. I hope they cherish these pictures forever, and share with their grandchildren that all the smiles in the rain that they see in the pictures below was only a foreshadowing of their life together: A life full of pure heavenly joy even through the storms.
Natalie and Eric, I just adore you two. I am so blessed to have gotten to know you and to have been a part of your day. XO!
Everything was really dark in the church, but we managed to find a side door to do all of Natalie’s getting ready shots. I adore this! Natalie, you are beyond gorgeous! And this is when I cry. Every. Time. Love this shot my second shooter got. After this wedding I have decided to go pick up a set of clear umbrellas for my emergency kit for wedding days. Even though we couldn’t use them during the sideways rain, I think they are a perfect detail to part of their day. She is so beautiful!
That is one proud dad and one happy girl about to marry her dream guy.
We had to do all the bridal party shots in the church because the group was too big to get in the tunnel, but I still love them.
Such good sports. This picture really doesn’t do it justice. It was cold, sideways raining, and pouring. Seeeeeee?!?!That is totally fog on my lens in the bottom left of the picture below. But it works with this lighting and I totally love it. Eeep! One of my faves! So. In. Love. Love it!
And now time to party! These guys! I heart umbrella pics!
