For those of you who don’t know about Stitch Fix or are on the fence about trying it, this post is for you. In short, Stitch Fix is an affordable online stylist service. They send you five pieces of clothing at whatever frequency you want and you get to choose what you want to keep and send the rest back in a pre-paid mailer. If you don’t choose anything, you pay a $20 styling fee, which is a pretty decent fee (IMHO) when you think about the cost of an actual stylist. But, if you keep at least one thing, you don’t have pay the styling fee and you just pay for the cost of the items you decide to keep. You can also get referral credit for every person you refer who gets a Stitch Fix. The referral credit is $25 per person you refer.

Since this fix was going to be at the beginning of wedding season, I asked my stylist for some dressy options to wear to shoot weddings in and some more casual options to wear to regular shoots. I sent her a blog post I found from another blogger who received items that were more my style.

Full disclosure: I purposefully don’t look at the checkout receipt or prices when I first open and try everything on because I want an honest assessment on whether or not I like it on me (regardless of price). This way I know I am choosing items based on pure style and not letting my conservative spending make a decision for me.

Here are the results:

Item 1: Kut From The Kloth –Distressed Boyfriend Jeans | $78

I was pretty excited to see boyfriend jeans in the box because I have wanted a pair, but I was sad that these were pretty big on me. They fit fine everywhere but the waist was a good few inches too big.

Item 2: Collective Concepts – Rosco Floral Print Crochet Detail Tank | $58

This shirt was one of the exact same shirts that were in the blog post that I sent to my stylist. She actually thanked me for sending the blog post, so the fact that she looked at it, made me happy. I loved the fit of this shirt, the soft floral pattern, the scoop neckline, and the lace in the back. I already wore this shirt pair with a cardigan and my skinny jeans from last Fix.

Item 3: Gilli Kadyn Dress | $64

This dress fit me perfectly, but the material just hugged to my tummy and showed off my not-so-flat belly from having two babies. It also looked like something I would have worn to my 8th grade dance in the early 90s. I didn’t like the style or material at all.

Item 4: Papermoon Cecil Aline Dress | $48

This dress was super cozy and would make a great shooting dress in the spring or fall. It is really flattering and I like where the belt ties off to make the fit just right for my body type. I also like the pattern on the black. I have a ton of black and white pieces, but not a lot with pattern. I thought it would be fun to pair this with a maroon scarf in the fall with boots. Or a jean jacket and flats for the spring.

Item 5: 41 Hawthorn Giada Skirt | $74

This skirt was a lot of fun. I loved the fact that it was navy blue and had leather and zipper accents. It could be dressed up or dressed down and would make a great skirt to shoot at weddings. The only problem is that it was too big. It got twisted around my waist pretty easily. I wish I could say I have lost weight, but I haven’t. I was surprised to see two pieces that didn’t fit me well in this fix. Out of fixe fixes, this is the first that has happened.

My overall opinion of this box is that I found two great pieces to put in my wardrobe that I wouldn’t have otherwise picked out if I were shopping. And, since I had a little bit of credit left I got them at a good price. It was still fun and had my jeans fit, I would have thought this would have been a very successful box. After this fix, I changed the frequency of my next box to three months out instead of every other month. I love the service, but my clothing budget can’t afford every two months. Especially if we have to purchase a new car this year. But three months is SUCH a far way away!!!
