For many many years I struggled with needing to have a deeper purpose in my life. I felt like this life wasn’t just about the 9-5 or being exhausted all the time. Things felt so mundane and just not meaningful enough for me. And I struggled with minor depression and horrible comparison because of this. I wasn’t a good enough mom, wife, photographer, daughter…(fill in the blank here). I had to do something on a grand scale to have a great purpose. But that is simply not true…

A few years back I really started seeking The Lord more. I began doing daily bible studies (starting with Philippians) and meditated more in the Bible and through prayer. I began journaling my studies and my struggles, and what resulted over many years of doing this was a deeper relationship with Christ. In hindsight, it seems unreal to think about how I was a few years back because I see things so much more clearly. A simple conversation with a friend has purpose. A word of encouragement to my husband has purpose. An apology to my child has purpose. A sweet hug, a gentle touch, a passing conversation…all of these things have purpose. I HAVE purpose. And not just in my life as a whole, but in my daily choices and interactions. And do you want to know how I know that? The bible says I do. My pastor often says in his sermons, “I’m not making this up. How do I know that this is the truth? Because it’s in the bible!!!” You see, when you begin looking at the bible as a source of truth, life seems a lot clearer. And the Bible tells us that we have a purpose. More specifically, we are God’s workmanship. We are his masterpiece. His beautiful creation created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Do you think he would create us to serve zero purpose??? Absolutely not. In fact, the Bible says it is exactly the opposite. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that he created us with our life purpose already laid out for us in advance. In. Advance! And what is even cooler than all of this? We don’t have to guess what our purpose is. The bible tells us.  We are given the free gift of salvation and then the Holy Spirit indwells in our hearts FOREVER and daily sanctifies our hearts. Our purpose…YOUR purpose is in your daily acts of service, kindness, love, and sharing of the gospel. Often in those little daily tasks, we serve our greatest purpose.  You don’t need a large audience, fame, wealth, or need to win “mom of the year” award. You simply need to love Jesus and serve others in that love.

Now, go be purposeful today.

XO,

Stacy
